1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

This indicates that nobody has ever seen God, yet Exodus 33:23 has God showing his "back parts" to Moses. Additionally, Leviticus 9:23 the glory of the Lord appearing to Aaron and his sons, and the people in the temple, who shouted and fell on their faces.
